While having a day off from work is a very nice thing, we mush never forget the reason that we have it off.
Before we get going on this, I want to say that I am not defending or condemning DC Comics with this story.
Over the weekend Deadpool broke all sorts of box office records. Here is how it all stacked up. #1 opening weekend ($132.75M) ever in Fox history #1 opening weekend ever for an R-rated film #1 February opening weekend #1 Winter opening weekend #2 opening weekend ever for an original Marvel property title #5 opening weekend ever for a Marvel property title Even more impressive is that this all happened with a very small $58 million budget that is very low by Hollywood standards for a major title with visual effects and a star.
There has been a lot of conversations about this years Academy Awards nominations and the lack of black actors and films such as Straight Outta Compton, Creed, and Concussion getting few or no nominations.
Over the weekend there was a dust-up in the comics industry about Hannah Means Shannon who stepped down from Bleeding Cool as Editor-in-Chief to go to Dark Horse Comics to become the Senior Executive Editor.
Over the weekend the Long Beach Comic Con 2015 was back in town for its fall show and it seemed that attendance was larger than last years show.
It seems as if both the comic world press and now the mainstream media has picked up on the sales and gloom and doom that supposedly a crisis at DC Comics.
So yesterday was my birthday as always I spend the day (or closest day) at the Happiest Place on Earth Disneyland.
With this last weekends disastrous opening of the Fox’s new Fantastic Four reboot that made $25 million dollars and was second to the new Mission Impossible film that was in its second week of release.
